"Why does that girl only have one hand?"

This is a question I have heard frequently since my daughter was born in 2013. We were quite surprised to see our beautiful baby girl was born as an in utero amputee; missing the lower portion of her left arm and hand. We soon learned about her diagnosis of Amniotic Band Syndrome (ABS) and began the journey of raising our child to be a powerful person regardless of her overt physical difference. Our mantra is simple and true.

"You are a Powerful Person. You make your own choices. You are beautiful, brave, strong and kind."

I Am a Powerful Person is a children's book created to teach young readers that they are ultimately responsible for their own choices. Despite hardship, disappointment and even prejudice, every single person is powerful enough to learn how to control their own self. One always has the choice between good and bad. And making a deliberate choice to reduce suffering or to augment it is up to them. It is the challenge to live up to one's fullest potential, embracing those difficult moments that can make us stronger than we ever thought possible!
