When Claire learns that Alex O'Donnell has returned to FruitLand Park, she is exasperated, to say the least He'd left ten years ago when - and because - she was in love with him and now, he just arrives out of the blue. His presence is necessary, however; the farm is desperately short-handed.

Claire finds all her old feelings returning but is determined not to get involved. Avoiding him doesn't really work though, because Alex does his best not to be avoided.

Meantime, Marnie, Claire's best friend, has plans for Claire that involve Marnie's brother, Henry and a new life with him. Claire likes Henry and he would make an ideal husband and father. He'd make her forget about Alex, wouldn't he?
